The Hyōgo Daibutsu in Kobe is known as one of the three big Buddhas in Japan, in the same class with the big Buddhas of Nara and Kamakura.

he original statue at Nōfukuji Temple in Kobe had been melted down in 1944 for the ‘Metals recovery ordinance’ during WW2. It was replaced in 1991 with the current version which is 11 meters tall, and weighs in at 60 tons.
