Dropped my brain out of my ass this morning

I’ve been relearning arduino. I made an adding machine. The old one had disgusting code. The new one should be better. It follows proper abstraction principals as far as I can tell. Its cleaner too. The first variant was more of a GOTO soup.

Unfortunately however, I dropped my brain out of my ass and the code doesn’t work.

I try to run it, and it just flashes a little led 8 times. That’s not at all what’s supposed to happen. And the code certainly doesn’t imply that this should happen either. So this means either theres a bug I’m missing (unlikely) or something simply doesn’t work the way I think it does.

Looking for eyes on my code please, advice if anyone has any. I tried to ask claude via duck.ai and it led me in circles repeating things and I’m not about to plug into an agent since I’m trying to actually learn something here.
