I’m beginning to go greybeard mode

I’m tired of relying on other peoples soft. I just wanna roll my own and be done with it. Fix bugs as they become important. Otherwise don’t touch it.

I’ve got a retro machine here next to my desk, it’s hooked up but I haven’t used it in a bit. I think I’m gonna drop Plan9 or some other low level OS on it and fart around. Maybe not p9, I need something that can run C++… freeDOS maybe, or ReactOS Server?

I’d like to roll my own OS, but I’m not Terry Davis, and I don’t have the holy scripture of the machine flooding my brain… yet. How hard is it to build an OS? Probably very I’d imagine.

Maybe I’ll teach myself rust and go with Redox. Maybe I’ll go with a UNIX and just write the fucking missing drivers that keep my laptop idling at “too hot to touch”.

I’m just sick of waiting on maintainers to… maintain? I’d rather just do everything from scratch at this point. Or at least from source. Is this how Gentoo users feel? But like fuck linux, the community is getting more toxic by the day and “fashionable” soft in the ecosystem is gonna kill it sooner or later, paradox of tolerance what is is and all. If I roll my own I can be explicitly Anti-Alt-Right (using particular phrasing to avoid being declared a terrorist, my country is a joke oh my god). Maybe I even get my own userbase and maintainers who have to answer to me before they make stupid decisions like letting a set of post install scripts get so popular a fucking ‘fashionisto’ gets handed 10 million dollarydoos to… maintain them?

Open source is beautiful thing, some of the open source community needs to fucking not though.
