Update - 20 July 2026
Bottles have been temporarily disabled, and Envision + Monado are available for testing.
Overview
- Bottles (pre-built software) are temporarily disabled, due to a bug with our Continuous Integration (CI) that causes segfaults when running the software on client machines.
- Experimental formulae for Monado and Envision are now available (and somewhat working on Bazzite).
Installing Envision and Monado
- Install Envision+Monado using
rpm-ostree install patch; sudo rpm-ostree ex apply-live; brew update; brew upgrade; brew install monado envision - Follow the post-install instructions
- Make sure development profiles are disabled in Envision
Known Issues
- Envision checks the wrong path for service capabilities, which causes the setcap warning to show even if the capabilities are set correctly
- Custom Envision profiles cannot be built (the dependencies are available in Homebrew, but we need a patch to include them and instructions to install them)
- Envision requires
gpatchfrom your distribution to install. - Monado's debug UI fails to initialize and will not display.
ther issues and feedback can be reported on the issue tracker.
Deprecations & Removals
Envision-OCI has been disabled. It is no longer maintained or available, and will soon not be necessary (after known issue #2 above). Documentation will be updated soon.
Maintenance Notice
In the future, there will be periods of up to a few weeks at a time where I will not be working on Homebrew-XR. This doesn't mean that it is unmaintained, I've just chosen to dedicate more of my time to more important or enjoyable projects. I don't even use Fedora Atomic myself, so there's not much of a personal incentive for me to work on it, except of course for the benefit of our community <3. I'm working on automating testing & updates, so I can hopefully spend less time actively keeping this up to date in the future.
If you are interested in contributing to the project, I would really appreciate it. Especially to fix bottling with CI or the known issues in Envision. I can share with you a rough outline for how each of these issues can be fixed, if you have the time and interest to implement them!
Additionally, I'm offering a bounty of $50 if you can get CI bottling to work. The only conditions are:
- it must work with Spindle (Tangled's CI). If you find a blocking issue with Spindle or it's microvm engine, I'll personally work on fixing it
- you need an ATProto (bluesky, tangled, leaflet, semble, etc.) account to contribute to the project on Tangled
- you'll need to have either a donation page or Apple Cash set up so I can send you the reward
