Self hosting a PDS isn't hard (so far)
Due to my compulsive need to self-host whatever I possibly can, I decided to set up a self-hosted PDS. All that's on it so far is my Bluesky profile data, but it was a surprisingly painless process.

Permissioned Data Shapes: Self-Only Bookmarks
A self-only space is the smallest shape permissioned data can take: one authority, one member, one repo, and private bookmarks that share a record shape and a write path with public ones.

There and back again, the long way round to publishing a blog post
As if I hadn't already written enough about my atproto rabbit hole, this time it's how markdown in my Obsidian vault becomes records in my PDS becomes HTML on a website.

Atmosphere Roundup
Notes This is mostly intended as a resource that I can point people towards as an introduction to atproto, not for folks who've already consumed the koolaid I've been excited about the potential of atproto for awhile, initially by the data portability aspect, but more recently I'm digging the idea that it's essentially a giant...

AT Protocol has a trademark policy now
Bluesky acquired the AT Protocol trademarks, published a community-friendly policy, and sent me on a tour of every repository I maintain.

Il n'y a pas d'instances dans atproto
« Mais où sont donc les instances Bluesky ? » La question est une erreur de catégorie. Les instances sont un concept hérité de Mastodon, et je voulais avoir quelque chose à partager qui l'explique clairement.

I built a Bluesky client because I was tired of typing hashtags
DraftSky went from an empty Gin server to a full Bluesky client. Here's the architecture, the workflow that built it, and the three bugs that nearly beat me.

Too many words about DIDs
Your “Bluesky account” is not just a Bluesky account: it is an account that can be used with a variety of other applications. This post is going to be an exploration of part of what that means from a technical perspective, so if you’re not a software developer, this post isn’t…

Is my ATProto app actually decentralized?
A few days ago I wrote about rolld, the little board game tracker I built on the AT Protocol. As I mentioned then, this is very much a learning experiment for me, a way to play with ATProto and learn about it. In this post, I'd like to come back to a few of my struggles and the things I learned while designing it.
