comptime or !comptime?
Zig wants to be clear when it's resolving types/structs and when it's dealing with runtime data. Comptime bakes in your logic into the binary at compilation time, but when to actually use it?

Setting up standard.site integration with a Bluesky account, a static site, duck tape, and hope
I decided to see if I could set up standard.site for my blog without using an existing platform. I managed to hack something together myself – emphasis on the hack: it’s a lot of terminal commands, copy-and-pasting, and questionable security decisions.

Tabs, spaces, hand tools, and seat belts: a response
I read the blog post mentioned in the title recently, and found it a reasonable and coherent articulation of a certain viewpoint about AI, and indeed about programming (even society) in general. It presents its arguments clearly and sensibly. It has an ambivalence to it that suggests consideration. It is well-cited and well-written. You should read it. (in fact, you should read it before the rest of this blog post, or I’ll make even less sense than otherwise). This makes me extremely angry. As I take the opposite viewpoint from this point, it feels only appropriate that I should present it in the opposite manner: that is, unreasonably, incoherently, unclearly, insensibly, poorly considered and indeed inconsiderately. Enjoy.

You no longer need JavaScript (Lyra Rebane)
https://lyra.horse/blog/2025/08/you-dont-need-js/ I know the basics of HTML and CSS, but I didn't realise just how insanely good it's gotten lately. From a cursory glance both seem like "easy to use, hard to master" markup languages with the mastery being very rewarding. I've been thinking about making a "music talk" site with Hugo (from scratch) as...
