Phoneblogging
Around 2 billion people access the internet exclusively via smartphones, yet the IndieWeb community largely neglects mobile-first design and phoneblogging UX. A casual survey of writers reveals three approaches to mobile publishing: no phoneblogging, partial (drafts on phone, finish on desktop), and full phoneblogging. The IndieWeb must prioritize accessible, simple ways to blog from phones while maintaining independence from corporate platforms.

faol-website fixes a broken table of contents and adds crawlability
The table of contents now reads anchor IDs off the rendered tree instead of recomputing them, the memory page distinguishes a failed fetch from an empty history, and robots.txt/sitemap.xml shipped for the first time.

Softcore First, Hardcore Eventually: A Ladder for the IndieWeb
Responding to Adam Newbold's 'Hardcore IndieWeb' guide, I argue for a ladder approach to joining the IndieWeb. Rather than choosing between easy platforms and full technical independence, people should climb rungs progressively. Start with BearBlog or Pika, learning hand-coded HTML, then move to static site generators when ready. This applies progressive disclosure to onboarding, avoiding the curse of knowledge that makes experts skip beginner-friendly steps.

The shadow copy was the wrong layer
Last week I set out to build two companion WordPress plugins. One would turn PDF attachments into markdown so AI agents could read them. The other would run a local vision model over every image and write a description an agent could use. Generally speaking, agents can't read PDFs or images well (although they're getting...
