Pook-Emu Bee: Links For 08-07-26
I am a bit late today, but I decided to keep the Pook-Emu Bee links running with four in a row before our off-day tomorrow (Newsletter Saturday). [caption id="attachment_6741" align="aligncenter" width="1008"] I bought sugar and yeast at the grocery store last night.[/caption] 1. Private email is fine, actually (Matthew Guay for Buttondown Blog. August 7,...

Pook-Emu Bee: Links For 08-07-26
I am a bit late today, but I decided to keep the Pook-Emu Bee links running with four in a row before our off-day tomorrow (Newsletter Saturday). 1. Private email is fine, actually (Matthew Guay for Buttondown Blog. August 7, 2026.) I agree. But I my own solution (SimpleLogin) is not specifically listed (they note Proton Mail, which now owns Simple Login, but I have SL separate from Proton). 2. THE MORNING RANT: PepsiCo (Frito Lay) Snack Sales Decline as SNAP Restrictions Kick In (Buck […]

Pook-Emu Bee: Links For 06-15-26
Monday is a fun day. One reason Monday is a fun day is because it marks the return of Pook-Emu Bee links after the weekend. Speaking of the weekend, I published links and commentary to enjoy in Saturday's Newsletter Leaf Journal 284. [caption id="attachment_5942" align="aligncenter" width="969"] My photograph of the intersection of Carroll and Bond...

Pook-Emu Bee: Links For 06-09-26
I am on a daily Pook-Emu Bee links roll. Today, I keep it doing with a third consecutive edition of the links. [caption id="attachment_5694" align="aligncenter" width="1008"] I took this photo of the Gowanus Canal from the 3rd Street Bridge at about noon on June 8, 2026. While Washington DC has a shiny refurbished reflecting pool,...

Pook-Emu Bee: Links For 06-09-26
I am on a daily Pook-Emu Bee links roll. Today, I keep it doing with a third consecutive edition of the links. 1. Construction of jail in tony NYC nabe turns into potentially deadly ‘clown show’ with failling debris: records, locals (Nicole Rosenthal, Kevin Sheehan, and Katherine Donlevy for the New York Post. June 8, 2026.) Boerum Hill is "tony" but that particular stretch of it was not "tony" even before the monstrous jail construction project (not least because the new jail is […]

Pook-Emu Bee: Links For 06-08-26
Wherein I managed to successfully publish my "daily" Pook-Emu Bee links for a second consecutive day (what a twist!). [caption id="attachment_5640" align="aligncenter" width="1008"] I took this photograph on the morning of June 8, 2026, on 3rd Avenue and 2nd Street in Gowanus, Brooklyn. I'm not 100% sure what is up with the random statue on...

Pook-Emu Bee: Links For 06-08-26
Wherein I managed to successfully publish my "daily" Pook-Emu Bee links for a second consecutive day (what a twist!). 1. Persona 4 Revival Broadcast Announced As Atlus Reveals New Mechanics, Editions, And Screenshots (Orpheus Joshua at Noisy Pixel. June 7, 2026.) Let no one say I am not a long-standing Persona 4 fan, but $65 for a second re-master of the original Persona 4 is steep before you consider that Atlus will almost certainly release a DLC ($20? $25? $30?) with the extras from […]

I am a bit late today because I had a rush assignment to take care of. But now that it has been taken care of, I present for your enjoyment today's edition of Pook-Emu Bee links (note that "we" will be off until Sunday or Monday since tomorrow's links will be packaged in The Newsletter Leaf Journal.) 1. Massive fire rages at historic NYC church rebuilt after devastating inferno 138 years ago, wild photos show (Zoe Hussain for the New York Post. April 23, 2026.) Terrible news. I hope it ends […]

Pook-Emu Bee: Links For 04-07-26
I have a few new work assignments today (Sad!) but more than enough time (or just enough time) for our regularly scheduled edition of daily Pook-Emu Bee links. 1. OpenAI calls for robot taxes, a public wealth fund, and a 4-day workweek to tackle AI disruption (Tom Carter for Business Insider. April 6, 2026.) I came across an article recently suggesting ways the big AI players could modify their PR approaches. I said it was impossible. The people running them have no theory of the mind for […]

Touching the Gowanus Canal?
I recently came across Clive Thompson's Linkfest newsletter (hosted on Buttondown just like my own Newsletter Leaf Journal). Each issue consists of links he collected from around the web with commentary (also similar to Newsletter Leaf Journal, but with more links and commentary). I saved a good number of links from all the issues (mainly science and history related) that appeared in my feed reader after I added his feed. I also found a couple of websites of interest from his newsletter that […]

Pook-Emu Bee: Links For 03-23-26
Monday is the beginning of the work week. But it is also Pook-Emu Bee links day. Of course, every day except Newsletter Saturday is Pook-Emu Bee links day... 1. Hiding Behind Pen Names (Jerome Mazandarani for Anime News Network. March 23, 2026.) In this case, changing a pen name to hide a conviction for photographing a 15-year old student in violation of Japan's Child Prostitution and Pornography Act. 2. Clean-up, construction inch forward at Gowanus Green amid concerns from residents, […]

Carroll Street Bridge Proposals
The Carroll Street Bridge is the second bridge crossing Brooklyn's Gowanus Canal, situated between the Union Street and Third Street Bridges. It is the most interesting of the Gowanus Canal Bridges in that it is the only wooden bridge of the bunch and the oldest of three remaining retractable bridges in the United States (see Untapped New York article). Unfortunately, it has been closed since 2021 for repair and meintenance work. The Bridge is reportedly reopening in the near future (I am not […]
