Disassembling the Kodak Charmera
I was given a Kodak Charmera for my birthday and fell in love with it. It’s wonderful to leave home without a phone, but still be able to capture moments and without being popped out of them! I want to go even further; get it fast-booting into camera mode, customise the sounds & frames/filters, fix the EXIF tag writing, and anything else that gets the camera further out of the way (with the occasional bit of extra customisation fun!) (I’ve already built a macOS tool which sits in the background ...

Ninth Circuit: Your AI Agent Can’t Violate Hacking Law. But You Might.
The rise of AI is bringing a bunch of fascinating legal questions that are harder to answer than many expect. The latest one: who is liable if an agentic system running on its own hacks someone? That's the question a bunch of people have been asking this past week in the wake of multiple stories...

BSI will Straffreiheit: Mehr Rechtssicherheit für ethische Hacker

Can passkeys replace passwords
"Passkeys and the WebAuthn specification were intended to make public key cryptography accessible to average users, rather than just the domain of the tech-savvy. If done right, they could seriously improve security on the Web." @drbruced@aus.social summarises why passkeys are such a good idea in theory and explains where current implementations of the technology fall...

Hacking culture
I've always thought that the term "the cultural sector" was a bit disingenuous, because it makes the assumption that science, engineering and everything else under its umbrella can't for some reason be a part of "culture". Ditto "creatives": it doesn't take much thought to disprove the conceit, but theatre, music, fiction writing and so on are inherently thought of as creative, while fields like software development and structural engineering are not. What a bunch of hooey. So I was proud to be
