The Moment Every AI Company Hangs in the Air

In the Road Runner cartoons, the coyote runs on past the cliff’s edge and only begins to fall once it looks down. Richard Rumelt borrows that moment in Good Strategy Bad Strategy to explain credit bubbles, and it fits a public market just as well. The edge arrives the same way: a company posts growth...

The Substitute Input: Private Equity and AI in Creative Production

Private equity firms are buying music catalogs the same way they buy anything that throws off cash flow. Across the page, an AI agent’s byline appears beneath a story where no writer signed on. Both moves answer the same question in the same way: who gets paid when cultural output no longer requires paying creators?...

Gas, Not Models, Is the Shared Chokepoint in AI’s Near-Term Risk

The S-1 that Anthropic filed lists natural gas supply as a near-term risk, treating it not as a hypothetical model scenario but as a physical constraint on compute capacity itself. The filing notes that gas deliveries and storage availability could disrupt data center operations, which makes the question unavoidable: why does the fuel in pipelines...

AI Infrastructure Payoffs Compound in the Cloud, Not the IPO

AI debt fears are receding ahead of earnings from Oracle ($ORCL), Alphabet ($GOOGL), and Amazon ($AMZN), and investors are beginning to reprice the capital commitments that built today’s AI stack. The question this revaluation raises is not whether AI spending will pay off, but when and for whom it pays off at all. Venture capitalists...

Anthropic Tells Investors Washington Could Turn on It Before It Even Lists

A company about to sell stock to the public almost always writes its risk disclosures in generic, hedged language, the kind that could describe any industry in any decade. The filing Anthropic just put in front of investors skips that hedge. It tells them plainly that a hostile turn in Washington could hurt the stock,...

Hidden by Design: When AI Makes Every Creator Replaceable

The man who wrote every word Jim Cramer spoke on Mad Money for nearly three years was Cliff Mason, and almost no one watching knew his name. CNBC’s obituary noted his Emmy nominations but not the daily act of invention that made Cramer’s teleprompter reads feel like conversation: someone had to shape market chaos into...

The Earnings Playbook Trades the Gap, Not the Result

When Alphabet ($GOOGL), Microsoft ($MSFT), and Amazon ($AMZN) release numbers in one week, the earnings playbook treats each result as its own story with its own theme and catalyst. Advertising revenue, cloud growth, and retail numbers each gets a slot, a catalyst, and a reason to move the tape. The week re-prices the gap between...

ChatGPT’s PIN and OpenAI’s New Training Rule Both Have No Way Back

A four-digit PIN now hides a locked ChatGPT conversation from search and from anyone glancing at your screen, and OpenAI is explicit about what happens if that PIN is forgotten: the conversation does not stay locked, it disappears. Not hidden, not pending recovery, gone. A feature built to protect a conversation is also, by its...

Warhound’s $200 Million Bets on a Margin That May Already Be Leaving

Ben Lamm spent the past few years trying to bring back the woolly mammoth. His newest venture breeds a different kind of animal. Warhound, Lamm’s latest company, has raised $200 million to engineer autonomous war dogs and arm them with gear from Anduril, the defense contractor that already builds drones, interceptors, and command software for...

OpenAI and Google Found Ancient PHP Bugs. The Real Story Is What They Couldn’t Map

A research team at Wiz, the security firm owned by Alphabet ($GOOGL), worked alongside researchers from OpenAI last week. Together they traced a flaw buried in PHP, the scripting language that has run a large share of the web since the 1990s. Nothing about the underlying bug was new; what changed was who found it,...

When Google Cloud Failed, UK Banks Paid a Bill They Never Signed

This week, Google Cloud went down, and the trouble did not stop at search results or video queues. It reached into Britain’s banking system, where several banks and payment services built on that cloud went dark with it. Customers could not move their own money until the outage ran its course, according to an ABC...

Town’s Four-Month Unicorn Valuation Outpaces the Tools Built to Check It

Four months after it launched, the AI assistant startup Town crossed the billion-dollar threshold that venture investors use to mark a unicorn. Most companies spend years proving they deserve that number; Town did it in about the time it takes to renew a lease. The obvious read is that artificial intelligence has finally compressed the...
