2026 Q3 Edmonton building permit report
Fiveplex to eightplex rowhomes are now Edmonton's largest category of new homes, even as overall permits fell 27% through Q3 2026, mostly because of fewer large apartments. With the province eyeing the zoning bylaw, a four-unit cap would have cost up to 22% of this year's homes. Plus: a new interactive infill dashboard.

Lot size per unit: a potentially dangerous regulation
Lot area per home has been suggested as a potential replacement for the eight-home hardcap in the RS zone. Looking at the data suggests this comes with some danger if tinkered with too much.

2025: The year Edmonton built the missing middle
Edmonton's zoning reform is working. In 2025, newly legalized eight-home rowhomes drove a record increase in homebuilding, achieved by redeveloping only 0.39% of properties in mature neighbourhoods.
