Walking Routes in the Zoniënwoud

’ve been trying to find good walking route recommendations for the Sonian Forest (Zoniënwoud/Forêt des Soignes), south of Brussels. I tried the Komoot app, since it had given me a good recommendation and worked well last week, but when I tried a slightly more ambitious walk yesterday, I was bombarded with ads pressuring me to upgrade to their premium tier. Thanks Bending Spoons.
So I wanted to share a relatively well-hidden gold mine of walks that I found on the forest’s official website. Each walking or biking route can be downloaded in a variety of formats, which combined with the CoMaps app, might be a good alternative to the constant pressure to subscribe for ‘premium’ features.
Despite repeated prompts to activate a free 7-day trial of Komoot, yesterday’s walk was 8.5km along some beautiful, small forest paths. Theoretically, I should have been walking alongside a couple of different streams, but they were all completely dry.
We’ll see next weekend how the CoMaps app works for navigation. I’m going to try a forest bike ride (weather permitting).
