38 Most Influential Posters of 2026
bsky38.com is a community-voted list of the 38 most influential Bluesky posters of 2026, made with Bailey Townsend (@pds.dad). Anyone with a Bluesky account can vote for up to ten people, and the 38 with the most votes make the list. It isn't run by Bluesky, but Bluesky did come on to collaborate with us after the project has such immediate viral success. Every ballot is a record written to the voter's own account on the AT Protocol.

Cat Hicks – The Psychology of Software Teams
This book gave psychological context to many things I had already observed at work: learning needs time, performance depends on the environment, and belonging matters. Software development is social, not individual. Sustainable teams need room for learning, problem-solving and helping others instead of constantly optimizing for short-term output.

A New IndieWeb Publication? or: I Want to Start Something and Be Bad at It
Inspired by Good Internet Magazine, I'm starting a new volunteer-run IndieWeb publication tentatively called Long Horizon. Exploring my readiness to launch a digital and physical magazine focused on creative non-fiction and lyric essays, and seeking collaborators who want to build something meaningful on the Internet together.

Cooperative Overlap
One of the biggest sources of miscommunication is people having different styles of communication, or different norms about the right way to express emotion or context even if there's agreement on more straightforward aspects of verbal communication. Things like "ask vs. guess" cultures are one…

The Virtual Startup: Taking Flight
A year ago, I wrote about the launch of Gourmet Live by Condé Nast. It was a fascinating project for many reasons, ranging from the fact it was bringing back a brand name that lots of people missed, to the tech innovations the team came up with. (For example, I thought/feared Flipboard was going to…

How should a White House Quora Work?
Summary: The White House is looking to build a web community to get its questions answered, sort of their own Quora, and they’re trying to do it the right way. They’re asking those who would participate to help shape how the community itself works. They’re not trying to create a network from…

Forking is a Feature
While Linus Torvalds is best known as the creator of Linux, it’s one of his more geeky creations, and the social implications of its design, that may well end up being his greatest legacy. Because Linus has, in just a few short years, changed the social dynamic around forking, turning the idea of…

The "Yes, and..." Culture
In improvisational theater and comedy, one of the first rules of participation is allowing co-creation. Basically, instead of saying “No, wait!” you respond to your collaborators with “Yes, and…” to continue the conversation and start to create something great together. That principle of…

My Social Network is Open
I try to keep my social network as open as possible. Here’s the thing — I’m not talking about web applications that mimic real-world behaviors. I mean the real world. The people I befriend, collaborate with, and share ideas with are not constrained by the companies that they belong to, or the tools…
